Expert-led Reformer Pilates, with your body and your goals at the centre
Reformer Pilates is a fantastic way to build strength, improve mobility, develop better movement and feel more confident in your body.
At Animated Physio, we bring something extra to your Reformer Pilates experience. We’re a physiotherapy-led studio, so our approach is grounded in our understanding of the body, movement, injury rehabilitation and exercise.
Whether you’re completely new to Reformer, returning to exercise after an injury, looking to improve your strength or want to take your Pilates to the next level, we’ll help you get the most from every session.
Your Reformer journey starts with a 1-1
Every new Reformer client starts with a personalised 1-1 session. Rather than putting you straight into a group class, we take the time to understand you first. We’ll discuss your goals, assess your movement and talk through any injuries, pain or concerns you may have.
Your 1-1 gives us the opportunity to introduce you to the Reformer, make sure you’re comfortable with the equipment and establish what type of Reformer training is going to be most beneficial for you.
From there, we’ll recommend your next step. Depending on your individual needs, goals and confidence, this could be:
1-1 Reformer: Continue with personalised sessions if you would benefit from individual instruction, are working towards a specific goal or need more focused support.
2-1 Reformer: Move into a more personal shared session with a friend or partner, giving you the benefits of individualised instruction while training alongside someone else.
Small-Group Reformer Classes: Progress into our small-group classes when you’re ready, with a maximum of just 4 participants. We have 2 class options: Reformer classes suitable for all abilities, or Foundations & Flow Reformer which is our beginner-friendly reformer class.
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. We’ll help you find the right way to progress based on your body, your goals and where you are in your journey.
Your Reformer options
1-1 Reformer Pilates
Our 1-1 Reformer sessions are completely personalised to you. They’re ideal if you’re new to Reformer, recovering from injury, have specific goals or simply prefer individual instruction. Your session can be adapted around your body, your abilities and what you want to achieve. A reformer 1-1 (£65) is required prior to doing 2-1 or group classes with us. If you wish to continue with 1-1 sessions following your initial appointment, we have treatment packages you can find out more about here.
2-1 Reformer Pilates
Want a more personal experience but would prefer to attend with someone else? Our 2:1 Reformer sessions allow you to share a session with a friend or partner while still receiving plenty of individual guidance from your instructor. They’re a great option if you want the benefits of personalised Reformer training while working out together.
Small Group Reformer Pilates
Our small-group Reformer classes have a maximum of just 4 participants, allowing your instructor to provide individual guidance while you enjoy the motivation and atmosphere of a group session. Classes are suitable for a range of abilities and are designed to help you progressively build strength, control and confidence.
Our reformer classes are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 12pm, 1pm and 2pm, We have 2 reformer class types: Reformer Pilates, which is suitable for all abilities, and Foundations & Flow which are our beginner-friendly reformer classes.
All new clients complete a Reformer 1-1 before joining a group class, so we can make sure you’re comfortable with the equipment and that classes are the right next step for you.
Why choose physio-led Reformer Pilates?
Reformer Pilates can be beneficial for almost anyone, but we believe it’s even more valuable when the person teaching you understands why your body moves the way it does. As a physiotherapy-led business, rehabilitation, movement and understanding the body are at the heart of what we do.
Rehabilitation & injury
Recovering from an injury or dealing with ongoing pain? Reformer Pilates can be a fantastic way to gradually rebuild strength and movement. Our physiotherapy expertise means we can consider your injury, your current abilities and your goals when helping you progress.
Strength & conditioning
The Reformer provides adjustable resistance, allowing you to progressively challenge your muscles. Whether you want to improve your core strength, build stronger legs and glutes or simply feel stronger in everyday life, we’ll help you work towards your goals.
Mobility & movement
Reformer Pilates encourages controlled, purposeful movement and can help improve mobility, body awareness and movement control.
Women’s health & postnatal recovery
Our Women’s Health Physiotherapy expertise means we can support women returning to exercise following pregnancy, as well as those experiencing issues such as pelvic floor weakness, diastasis recti or prolapse.
Why are our Reformer classes limited to 4 people?
We deliberately keep our Reformer classes small. With a maximum of 4 participants, your instructor can give you individual attention, provide corrections and adapt exercises where needed. Combined with your initial 1-1, this means you don’t simply get placed into a class and left to figure things out yourself. You get a personalised starting point, followed by expert guidance as you progress.
Ready to start your Reformer journey?
Whether your goal is to get stronger, improve your movement, return to exercise after an injury or simply try something new, we’d love to help. Your first step is a Reformer 1-1. From there, we’ll help you decide what comes next.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to have done Pilates before?
No! Reformer Pilates is suitable for complete beginners. Your initial 1-1 will introduce you to the equipment and help you build confidence before deciding on your next step.
Do I have to have a 1-1 before joining a Reformer class?
Yes. Every new Reformer client completes a 1-1 before joining our 2-1 or small-group Reformer sessions, even if you have done reformer elsewhere previously. This isn’t simply a prerequisite. It allows us to understand your individual needs and recommend the most appropriate way for you to progress.
How many people are in your Reformer classes?
Our small-group classes have a maximum of 4 participants.
Is 2-1 Reformer suitable for beginners?
Everyone new to our Reformer service starts with a 1-1, after which we’ll recommend whether 1-1, 2-1 or small-group sessions are the best option for you.
Is Reformer Pilates suitable if I have an injury?
It can be. Your initial 1-1 allows us to understand your injury, your current abilities and your goals before recommending the most appropriate way for you to exercise. If you have a significant or ongoing injury, we may recommend a physiotherapy assessment before or alongside your Pilates. On Mondays and Wednesdays at 2pm, we run our Foundations & Flow classes, which are our more gentle reformer classes, more suited to beginners or if you’re attending with an injury.
Is Reformer Pilates suitable after pregnancy?
Yes. Our Monday and Friday classes are taken by an experienced Women’s Health Physiotherapist, so we are able to help you safely rebuild strength and confidence following pregnancy and birth. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate babies attending reformer classes with you.
What should I wear to Reformer Pilates?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Grippy Pilates socks are required for Reformer sessions – we give you a free pair at your initial 1-1.
Where is your Reformer Pilates studio?
Our Reformer Pilates sessions take place at Animated Physio in Billericay, Essex.
